Housing agency provided public support to convicted sex offenders, drug dealers, murderers

Lansing — The state’s housing agency for low-income people failed to properly screen its tenants and provided public support to convicted sex offenders, drug dealers, murderers and hundreds of other violent criminals, according to a new state audit.

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority also provided thousands of dollars in rent for tenants locked up in prison — in one case for more than six years — and paid more than $100,000 in rent for tenants who had died, the report by Auditor General Thomas McTavish said. (more…)

Hospital: Check didn’t show past charges against suspect

The murder charges against a Suburban Hospital employee who police say killed his boss over workplace disputes have raised questions about how a man with a violent past slipped through the background checks the hospital says it routinely employs.

Suburban spokeswoman Ronna Borenstein-Levy said the hospital conducted a background check on 49-year-old engineer Keith D. Little — accused of stabbing his supervisor, Roosevelt Brockington Jr., more than 70 times in Suburban’s boiler room — but….. (more…)

Volunteer Firefighter a Serial Arsonist

LAFAYETTE, Ga. — A former LaFayette volunteer firefighter sat handcuffed and blank-faced Wednesday as a judge read an arson charge against him.

Police believe 33-year-old Marvin Chase, who began volunteering with the city fire department in 2005, is a serial arsonist responsible for setting a slew of fires in vacant houses in the last five years. While Chase has been charged with only one count of arson, for a fire on Ryan Road, Meeks said police hope to have enough evidence to indict him on about 20 counts when the grand jury meets in January.

“Serial arsonists never give up,” he said. “This isn’t the first volunteer firefighter that we’ve arrested for doing arsons. We take it very serious.”

6. Falsification – Resume fraud – it is clear that human resources professionals are now more than alert to the potential, magnified or direct falsehoods job applicants embellish themselves.
